This is an updated review and synthesis of research in social studies education. It attempts to summarize the research completed in the teaching of social studies and it draws implications of research for the classroom teacher. Practical aspects of instructional and academic research are the focus.

Selected, pertinent research findings of important topics in social studies such as inquiry, values education, use of textbooks and curriculum materials, and case study method have been analyzed, synthesized and presented.
